Oh Amy

New music from Amy Winehouse; take a listen::.

Ummm...Lunch

My boyfriend and I recently went to Cheesecake Factory for a nice lunch date. We had been arguing the entire day, but things seemed to change when dessert came out and we indulged in our personal slice of cheesecake. I had the banana cream cheesecake and he had the chocolate coconut cream cheese cake. Can we say delicious::.

Q:Who Wears Short Shorts? A: Dudes Wear Shorts

It is not every day that I write about the latest men’s fashion, but I had to write about this spring/summer fashion that I hope changes the way men dress – like skinny jeans did. This spring/summer men will be exposing not only the legs but the thighs as well. In the 1970’s men were able to walk the streets show off those muscle thighs so why not let fashion repeat itself and allow these men to feel masculine in a pair of shorts that come above the knee. Designers from Dolce and Gabbana to Gucci have showed a little leg in their men’s collection. But the economy is so terribly awful right now check out www.topman.com for that cheap, chic look (I featured a few of their shorts at the top)::.

UnderCover Icon: Zoe Kravitz

What happens when two people come together that infamously known for their style? Answer: They make fashion icons. Zoe Kravitz, the daughter of Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonnet, is following the footsteps of her parent and becoming a style icon on the rise. Recently featured in Vogue, Zoe style is somewhat reminiscent of her mother’s. But instead of just Bohemian, fashion followers would say it is more Bohemian-Chic. This 20 year old will most definitely be considered as one of the 21st century’s fashion icons.

Recognize: Asher Roth

You thought Eminem was hot…I guess you have not heard the sounds of up and coming artist Asher Roth. This young rapper from small town Pennsylvania is making noise with a meaning. And with a style compared to The Roots and Common, it was only necessary for him to be recognized – due to the fact that many Caucasian rappers have not taken this route down hip hop. Take look and listen at this new ground breaking artist and check out more at his official site http://www.thedailykush.com/::.

Color My Autumn

Spring is not the only season that is going to witness the many colors of the world. With neon resurfacing the color forecast it was only fair for it to be introduced to a season known for being deep and depressing when it comes to color. When shopping for fall 2009 do not just go for your basic browns and blacks; pick up a color that pops and says you’re here. Designers like Marc Jacobs, Jason Wu, Michael Kors and many more have featured this ongoing look in their fall collection making it trend that is here to stay::.

Runway Jogging

I recently posted that sneaker pumps are off limits unless you’re stomping in DKNY’s new sneaker pump collection. Unlike the classic sneakers pump that resembled no name brand sneakers, DKNY’s pumps are revamped the look by replacing that skinny heel with a chunkier heel to give balance. They also added two bold stripes to give it that athletic, but chic look. The Erin Sneaker Pump, starting at $125.00, is the least expensive from this collection but at that price it still makes a statement. Silver with white stripes and white heel is ready for the jog down the runway. My favorite pair which not only makes statements but makes fitness fun is the indigo and electric blue Sneaker Pump priced at $180.00. All eyes are bound to be on you::.

Boa: The Korean Janet

This hot commodity is climbing the pop charts like monkeys. Boa, a Korean pop artist, made her way on to America competitive scene last with her hit single “Eat You Up” in late 2008. Due to her success she has put another single that’s making them dance title “I Did It for Love”. Take look and listen at clip from her video and tell me what you think::.

Under-Rated Icon

I have come to believe that if it were not for me watching the lovely Whitley Gilbert flaunt and taunt on the hit show A Different World as a child, I would probably not be the highly dramatic diva I am today. So thank you oh so very much Whitley. The character played by Jasmine Guy was extremely fashionable for that time. She portrayed the young black women that had style and class. Sporting diamonds and Chanel to class Whitley indeed deserves to be considered one on televisions haute fashion icons::.

CHUVALO SAYS: omg![!]! look at those wedge heels!!! They drive me insane::.

Baby Brewer

M.I.A.'s baby, Brewer, is just too adorable for words. I hope he inherits his mother and father's (musician Benjamin Bronfman) talent and grace us with some music of his own. But this picture goes to show that you can not trust your friends because this picture was leaked by M.I.A.'s close collaborator Afrikan Boy::.

Not Kanye: The Fashion World Thinks Kanye Can Do Better

Fashion experts believe that fashion icon, Kanye West, can do a much better job when it comes to selecting a girlfriend that also compliments his style. Amber Rose is indeed beautiful, but her to some her style is far from fashionable. Its goes to show that just because you have on labels doesn’t mean they make you; you have to make the label. But style.com’s Meenal Mistry thinks that she has pulled off one outfit at least. Amber rocks an Alexander Wang spring dress, black leather gloves, Louis Vuitton sandals and oversize clutch at Hussein Chalayan's fall 2009 show. As a fan of this new frolic on the scene I think this outfit is a haute topic::.

Give Me A Break

I just want to throw up at the fact that the world is acting as if Rihanna and Chris Brown’s fight is the first domestic violence fight to walk the earth. Yes, I know the fact that they are both well-known celebrities plays a huge role in the media hyping this story up, but let’s not forget the millions of other women who suffer from domestic violence every day. Where is their justice? And America seems like their foreign to the women who are victims going back to the boyfriends. HELLO! It is most definitely not new, so stop pretending as if your oh so flabbergasted::.

Trash or Donate: Whatever You Do, It Must Go

Spring is quickly approaching so you know what that means, SPRING CLEANING!!! Clean out that closet of yours and get rid of some of those wretched rags you call clothes. I have took the time to provide you with a list of items/guidelines that should help you make that decision to either trash it or give it to your local good will, because rather you like it or not something must go.

First on my list are “baby girl” or “lil mama” t-shirts that you wore in middle school. I am honestly sick and tired of seeing young college students sporting these adolescent t-shirts as if they are sitting in pre-algebra. I say trash these hideous t-shirts because donating them will mean that I will probably see them again and that is something I do not want to witness ever again in my life.
Second, flight jackets, please invest in a nice pea coat or leather jacket; something that’s more classic and acceptable anywhere. Flight jackets do not make lasting impression in interviews or anywhere period. I suggest you donate the old thing because although it is not stylish this flight jacket can still keep someone (not you, someone else) warm who may not be as fortunate as you are.
Unless it is cold or your somewhere in the Middle East, an Arab scarf is the way to go, but if it’s a few degrees away from seventy-five and your downtown just on a walk please do not throw on an Arab scarf because you think your outfit lacks the style it can obtain. I am disgusted with the fact that people these days think they can just toss a scarf around their neck and things will be a-okay, because guess what…THEY’RE NOT! You still look a hot mess regardless because one, your neck probably reeks form the sweat you have leak and two, when you take that scarf off it will reveal that your nothing but a plain jane with no style at all – so either way you end up crapped on. I say throw that scarf away! ASAP!
I do not care! Just because DKNY has came out with new sneakers heels and you saw that in the latest issue of Vogue does not mean you can bring out your no name sneakers heels and think you can get away with it. NEWS FLASH: your shoes are not DKNY and are probably turned over. I advise you to trash ‘em. They don’t need to be on your feet of anyone elses.

Lastly, high waist jeans with the buttons; when Wal-Mart begins to sell them for $12.99 that is a sign that yours that sent you back $80 to $125 have seen their days and it is time to never wear them again. I say give donate this fad because someone unfortunate can buy them for $5.00 instead of going to Wal-Mart which would save them about $8.

Heights in the City

BET’s new reality show Harlem Heights follows the lives eight successful, young, black businessmen and women. Narrated by Bridgette, an Atlanta native who graduated from Spelman and now in law school, Harlem Heights is a show that depicts the black community as a community that thrives being highlighting the positive asset and accomplishments that these young leaders of tomorrow have achieved. Harlem Heights gives you your models, producer, fashion designer, and actress all in one. As a black person the show inspires me to want to become than just Rodnee Chuvalo.

Some would call Harlem Heights the “black version” of MTV’s hit show The City. The City is also a reality show based in New York City that follows the lives of seven young successful businessmen and women and some that are just rich. Narrated by Whitney, who also starred on the Hills, The City tells tales of Whitney’s new life from L.A. to New York and how she’s falling for all these guys and how her friends have more drama than the soaps. But besides that The City is a great show also::.

Soul Sista

I absolutely love the fact that Solange Knowles’ managing crew has took the effort to make her image extremely different from her sister Beyonce. When I see Solange in an interview or on stage performing I forget what exactly made her famous (Beyonce) and I like that. Solange has a more soulful voice that can be adjusted to fit in any genre. Although her look is a bit over the top like her big sis, Solange brings a more natural look to the table that Beyonce just can not do. Solange’s new single T.O.N.Y, is going to be a great hit as the summer comes in::.

Wanna Be Like Hercules

I never thought that I would be saying this but “Hercules, Hercules!” This spring/summer 2009 I dare you to make him your style icon and first thing on the list of becoming such an infamous war hero is get the sandals. There is nothing like a great pair of gladiator sandals that take you back to the days of Troy. Labels from MUDD to Michael Kors have made these shoes accessible and affordable for anyone to snatch up pair for this Bronze Age affair::.

MUDD $37.00

GUESS $100.00

STEVE MADDEN $80.00
MICHAEL KORS $325.00
