Fashion Recognized

Although I go to a predominately white university, I am a big fan of the many HBCUs that are out there. Matter of fact if it was not for my mother I would have went to North Carolina Central University, which is a HBCU in Durham, North Carolina. That is why I was so proud to see that Victoria Secret’s Pink line, which is dedicated to the younger, sporty female, took the time to recognize a few HBCUs in their collegiate collection. Universities like FAMU, North Carolina A&T, Southern University, Hampton, and the infamous Howard University are the five new addition to their list of universities. Due to the fact that America does not really recognize HBCUs as much as they should, this little installment will be greatly appreciated::.

Cupcakes and Cocktails?

I absolutely love planning little get-togethers for my friends and I. They always come out swell and dandy. Well for those who are going to be lonely on this upcoming holiday that screams love and reminds you that you have no one special in your life, throw a cute little gathering for you and your other lonely friends. I suggest a cupcake and cocktail party. Being that cup cakes are the new “it” deserts because who wants to worry about getting the right size slice of cake (you know that slice that makes you look fat and greedy) when you can just pick up a cup cake. And cocktails are just the right thing to go along with theses cup cakes. Whether the cocktails are virgin or not, the party can not go without having this perfect drink for a night with the girls. So just toss in the Sex and the City movie or just have a classic chit chat with your friends and whatever you chose to do have fun::.

Forget The Chocolates...I Wanna Bag

Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching and I’m beginning to think about what I want. Being that this is one of the first Valentine’s Day that I actually have someone to spend it with, I looking forward to something spectacular. I do not want chocolates or roses, and I most definitely do not want just a night at some hotel. You can call me selfish or unromantic, but honestly all I want is a bag, Puma’s Reality Bag No.2 to be exact. This $1000+ bag is just right for any ultra-chic fashionisto or fashionista. Coming well equipped with a metal crayon box, business cards for each of the “30 Americans” artists, the “30 Americans” catalog, a USB stick featuring a short film, as well as spider-covered notepad, leather pouch, leather wallet, key ring, and shirt, the Reality Bag No.2 is the perfect gift for the season of love. But unfortunatly this bag does not come out in stores until May, but he can always pre-order::.

Mexican Chic

Now I’ve been to a fair amount of Mexican restaurants and I must say that Chipotle Mexican Grill tops them all. Unlike your average Mexican restaurants where the décor is out dated and the food is drenched in grease, Chipotle puts a modern twist on this foreign cuisine. My boyfriend and I recently went there to grab what we thought would be a bite to eat but instead we got a mouth load. Chipotle does a great job at making sure the customer gets their money’s worth. I got the simple, but tasty quesadilla (which is not on the menu, so do not be afraid to ask) with fresh guacamole dip, salsa, and sour cream. My boyfriend ordered a burrito bowl. In it was a mixture of black beans, steak, tomatoes, corn, lettuce, and guacamole. I strongly suggest forgetting about Taco Bell and those ma and pa restaurants and indulge in the fresh taste and look the Chipotle Mexican Grill supplies::.

To Eleanor: Thanks for Everything, Fashion

Only happening twice a year, New York Fashion Week is one of the most highly anticipated events of the time. Icons of fashion along with those who absolutely live for it will be watching the fall 2009 collections debut while sitting under the tent or at home with their eyes glued to YouTube. However you chose to watch the shows does not matter; just make sure you take note so that when next season comes you will most definitely be on top of your game.

Fashion Week, which was once called Press Week, began in the early 1940’s by fashion publicist Eleanor Lambert. Lambert wanted to let the American designers who were being over looked by journalist to have a time to shine. And due to the fact that the reigning queen of fashion (Paris) was suffering thanks to WWII, fashion followers had no choice but to look elsewhere. I think Eleanor deserves a round of an applause::.

Iconic Being

Since her debut in 1999 Kelis has been making statements and setting trends making her one of the 21st century’s top fashion icons. Born and raised in Harlem, it was only necessary for Kelis to become an icon of fashion due to the fact that her mother was a fashion designer. Kelis’s raw edge and dare to be different attitude makes her stick out like a sore thumb and in this case it is indeed throbbing. Artists from Rihanna to Keri Hilson have been seen rocking styles that were once seen rocked by the one and only::.
